Apple Leak Reveals New iPhone Is Massive

iPhone 8 will be
Apple’s biggest ever iPhone in many ways. It will have the
largest iPhone display ever, the range’s largest price increase ever and it is expected to deliver the most sales ever (despite delays). But something even more massive is coming…

According to ET News (via The Investor) Apple sources have revealed the company will launch a new iPhone with a jaw dropping 6.46-inch display. The catch? It won’t arrive until 2018 as a ‘Plus’ version of the iPhone 8.

2018 iPhone 8S Plus vs iPhone 8S

Back up this new arrangement, ET News says the behemoth (which is larger than any premium rival, including the huge Galaxy Note 8) will be paired with a second 5.85-inch OLED sporting iPhone – presumably the iPhone 8S or iPhone 9 – recreating the little and large pattern customers have gotten used to since the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014.

“The development schedule has been advanced considering diverse factors such as funding, facility investment and production plans,” ET News reports its source as saying. “Work for this year’s iPhone started in April, also earlier than usual.”

If ET News is correct, the move is likely to mean the (long overdue) retirement of at least one of Apple’s ageing iPhone 6-based designs. The report says Apple will again have three models so it would leave space for the return of an updated iPhone SE – perhaps based on the iPhone 6 chassis rather than the iPhone 5-base of the current iPhone SE.

iPhone 8 Vs iPhone 7 shows how bezel-less display keeps size down

Furthermore, as shocking as a 6.46-inch iPhone sounds on paper, it is worth remembering the 5.85-inch iPhone 8 will be only slightly bigger than the current 4.7-inch iPhone 7 due to its tiny bezels. So assuming Apple applies the same logic to the 5.5-inch iPhone Plus then you get a similar screen increase again without making the iPhone physically any bigger in-hand.

In this light ET News’ report sounds great, but it does bring up one significant question: If the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 is going to be 54% more expensive than the iPhone 7 then a 6.46-inch iPhone could start from $1200.

So while these massive new iPhones may not arrive until 2018, you might need to start saving now…
